Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF)

Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of a damaged disc in the neck (discectomy) via an approach from the front (anterior) of the body. Following the removal, the adjacent vertebrae are fused together using a bone graft and sometimes, a metal plate and screws. This fusion process reduces motion between the vertebrae, mitigating pain caused by the disc or bone spurs impacting the nerves.

This procedure is typically used to treat conditions such as herniated disc, degenerative disc disease, or spinal stenosis in the cervical spine when conservative treatments have failed to provide relief. ACDF can alleviate symptoms such as neck pain, numbness, weakness, and tingling in the arms or hands.
